AZMAN MAT ISA began his academic career on 10 December 1998 at Institut Teknologi MARA. Priorly, he was a Library Online Executive at the New Straits Times Sdn Bhd, in Kuala Lumpur before pursuing MA in Electronic Communication and Publishing at University College London, United Kingdom under Young Lecturer Scheme scholarship. Azman earned his PhD in Humanities Computing from University of Glasgow, United Kingdom in 2009, specialising in records management and accountability of governance. He assumed various management positions namely, Director Strategic Communication to the Vice Chancellor, Director Institute of Student Leadership, Deputy Dean (Student Affairs), Program Head and Fellow Institute of Student Leadership. Currently, Azman is the Honorary Secretary, Persatuan Badan Berkanun Malaysia appointed by the Yang Dipertua, YBhg Vice Chancellor UiTM.
At the international level, Azman is a member of ISO TC 46/ WG13 Information and Documentation working on a new international standard on information governance. He was appointed as Head of Malaysia's delegation to the ISO General Meeting in 2020. Azman was a Visiting Professor at Universitas Brawijaya, Indonesia. He was also invited to Chulalongkorn University, Thailand and Hubei University, China to deliver lectures on information governance. Currently, he is involved in research on records and archives competencies led by the University of British Columbia, Canada. In addition, Azman was also frequently appointed as a moderator for numerous international and national dialogues notably the Public Sector Top Management Dialogue on Change Management: Direction of Digitalisation of Public Records Management in 2022 and various AKEPT programs.
Domestically, Azman is a reviewer of the National Guidelines for Information Security Risk Management, a committee member of ISO 15489 Records Management Standard ISO 2223 and the National Committee for Alignment of Information Science Standard. Malaysian Qualification Agency. 2019. He is also a member of Academic Program Committee for Master of Information Science (Library Science), Faculty of Art and Social Science, Universiti Malaya since 2022. He was also appointed as an external examiner and assessor for UKM PhD candidates. As an academic, Azman has published 22 indexed journals, 3 international chapters in book and is an editor of three books under AKEPT published by MAPIM. Azman currently leads one FRGS grant and a member of another. His accumulated research grant is approximately RM1.4 million. Aside from research, Azman successfully chaired international conferences which generated income for the university about half a million ringgit. He was also actively involved in volunteerism notably during the COVID-19 pandemic and the International Federation of Library Association conference in 2018. Indeed, his exceptional commitment with heart and soul to teaching, learning and nurturing future leaders and professionals particularly in the field of information science.
