Petroleum Engineering Department

The Petroleum Engineering Department is one of the departments under the Faculty of Engineering. The department offers one undergraduate programme (BEng Petroleum Engineering), two postgraduate programmes by taught course: MSc. Petroleum Engineering and MSc Drilling Engineering and two postgraduate programmes by research: MSc Petroleum Engineering and PhD in Petroleum Engineering.

The BEng Petroleum Engineering programme stresses the development of strong fundamentals in mathematics, sciences and engineering followed by a thorough coverage of fundamental petroleum engineering courses such as Introduction to Petroleum Engineering, Petroleum Geoscience, Drilling Engineering, Reservoir Engineering, Well Test Analysis and others. The fundamental courses in petroleum engineering which illustrate the application of the engineering principles to the type of problems and solution methods used in the petroleum industry.

Prior to completion of study, students are required to complete various projects ranging from engineering design, field development project (FDP), and individual projects selected from actual oil and gas field data and relevant industrial problems. Also. students will have the opportunity to major in one of these selected areas:

  • Reservoir Engineering
  • Drilling Engineering
  • Production Engineering

The information helps to promote and create awareness of what the department offers in terms of academic programmes, attract more applications within the country, region and world at large, and attract partners to collaborate with us in various academic, research and consultancy areas in Petroleum Engineering. I have the honor, therefore to call upon esteemed readers, potential students, stakeholders and all those willing to collaborate with us to closely read and disseminate this information to a wider audience who will be attracted and interested to work closely and effectively with us.

Thank you and we welcome you to join our efforts!
