About Civil UTP

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) offers a people serving profession, involves the application of engineering principles and applied sciences to the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of capital projects in a typical asset life cycle. This includes buildings, roads, bridges, dams, airports, water and wastewater treatment plants, oil and gas production facilities, special purpose structures and any engineered structures for the comfort of mankind.

The CEE curriculum is designed to suit the current trend of the industry and worldwide agenda.  The curriculum is delivered using the latest technologies of teaching and learning to suit the mentality of the current generation.

The academics in CEE are mostly certified with professional bodies such as Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT), as well as international bodies from the Engineering Council and Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in United Kingdom.

CEE welcomes you to be part of our esteemed family in building your career path as a civil engineer.

Introduction

Civil engineering is the engineering field which enriches comforts through its structures, making the world a more habitable place for mankind. The civil engineering curriculum provides engineering knowledge on the basic infrastructures such as buildings, roads, bridges, dams, airports, water and wastewater treatment plants, while special attention is given to the niche areas of oil and gas and renewable energy facilities.

The core engineering principles and applied sciences are embedded in the civil engineering curriculum and designed to be in line with the world Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).  Strong uphold towards the SDG elements ensure students to be nurtured towards a humanized civil engineer.  In supporting the SDG, sustainability can be seen in the civil engineering curriculum content for peace and prosperity of the people in the world, now and into the future.

Student’s learning experience are enhanced through the recent teaching and learning delivery methods in line with the world’s digitalization agenda.  Digitalization in civil engineering is portrayed through student’s competency in the use of drones in geomatics, building information design (BIM), computational fluid dynamics software as well as structural and geotechnical designs software, among others.  civil engineering curriculum is also embedded with metaverse immersive learning technology, as part of the Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality (AR/VR) tools for students to interact with a computer-generated environment related to CEE structures.

The civil engineering curriculum supports the PETRONAS Sustainability Agenda towards 30.50.0. The sustainability of net zero carbon emissions by 2050 is fostered in the curriculum content from the context of civil engineering materials and design concepts.

The civil engineering strives to close the bridge between theories in classroom and real-life problems with strong linkages with the industry.  Prior to programme offering, the curriculum itself has been reviewed and evaluated by a team of Industry Advisory Panels, Adjunct Professor and International Examiner in order to ensure the curriculum is aligned with industry needs.  Students are being exposed to industry players and experts from various disciplines through Adjunct Lecture series.  Moreover, students are brought to site visits or field trips for them to experience the engineering practise.  Students are encouraged to strengthen their engineering knowledge by participating in various national and international competitions.

Students are given the opportunity to major in one of these selected areas in the final year of their study namely:
  • Offshore Engineering

  • Environmental Engineering

  • Renewable Energy

  • Sustainability

The graduates from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering are well recognised by the industry.  This is reflected by the high employability rate of CEE graduates of more than 95%, within the first six months after graduation.
CEE welcomes you to join us in providing you with the path towards becoming a civil engineer.
