Field Trip

Field trips provide students with valuable exposure to real industrial environments, allowing them to observe large-scale chemical engineering operations beyond the classroom. By visiting plants and facilities, students gain a clearer understanding of process flow, equipment layout, safety systems, and operational constraints. This hands-on exposure helps bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and practical application, reinforcing learning through direct observation.

First-Year Chemical Engineering Field Trip to UTP District Cooling Plant

First year students taking Principles of Chemical Engineering and Fluid Mechanics had a field trip to the District Cooling Plant at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. The visit provided valuable exposure to real industrial operations, particularly in understanding chilled water distribution, energy efficiency systems and the integration of thermofluid principles in large-scale facilities. It also helped the students strengthen their understanding of mass and energy balance, especially in relation to heat exchange processes and overall system performance.

An Inspiring Industry Visit to Aalborg Portland (M) Sdn. Bhd

Final-year Chemical Engineering students had a valuable field trip to Aalborg Portland (M) Sdn. Bhd., a leading white cement manufacturer in the region. The visit gave students real-world exposure to the cement production process, from raw material preparation and kiln operation to grinding and packaging, while highlighting the importance of process efficiency, safety, and teamwork in large-scale industrial operations. Students also had the opportunity to interact with plant engineers and the HR team, gaining practical insights into engineering practice, career preparation, and professional growth. The experience strengthened their understanding of real industrial environments and inspired them as they prepare for their future roles as engineers.

Driving the Future: A Visit to Tesla's World of Innovation

Students from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS had a meaningful industrial visit to the Tesla Experience Centre, organized by the AIChE-UTP Student Chapter. The visit introduced students to Tesla's innovations in electric vehicles, automation, and renewable energy, highlighting how engineering knowledge can extend beyond traditional disciplines. The experience inspired students to embrace continuous learning, innovation, and sustainability, while gaining valuable insight into the future of green and multidisciplinary engineering.
