TANJUNG KEPAH MANGROVE ACTION PROJECT (TKMAP): Mangrove Restoration Programme at Destructive Coastal Area
Kampung Tanjung Kepah is well known as the primary producer of the largest mussels (kepah). However, the area has been facing severe coastal erosion that has significantly damaged its mangrove ecosystem. Approximately two kilometers of the mangrove belt, stretching from Kampung Tanjung Kepah to Kampung Sungai Tiram, has been destroyed. This destruction has not only harmed the environment but has also severely affected the socioeconomic well-being of the local community that depends on the coastal ecosystem for livelihood and protection.

In response to this urgent issue, the Tanjung Kepah Mangrove Action Project (TKMAP) has been developed as a restoration initiative focusing on the replantation of mangrove trees in the most affected coastal areas. The programme specifically targets Pusat Riadah Laut Tanjung Kepah as the main replantation site, with the aim of rehabilitating degraded areas, strengthening natural coastal defenses, and promoting environmental sustainability.

The objective of TKMAP is to restore the destructed mangrove ecosystems, enhance their resilience against environmental challenges, and secure long-term sustainability for both the environment and the surrounding communities.

This programme was conducted at Pusat Riadah Tanjung Kepah, Lekir, Sitiawan, from 1 April 2024 until 31 March 2025. Through this year-long effort, the project seeks to regenerate mangrove habitats, preserve marine biodiversity and ensure the coastal community continues to thrive alongside a healthy and sustainable ecosystem.
