Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) has successfully held an educational summit on 24 September 2025, by partnering with ConocoPhillips and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) to host STEM Forward with Energy4Me at the Sabah State Library, supported by an external grant of as much as RM39,464.98 (USD 10,000.00).

100 Students from SMK Stella Maris, SMK Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu, SMK SANZAC, SMK La Salle, and SMK All Saints were provided with direct career mentorship sessions by ConocoPhillips, a giant industry of petroleum engineering, successfully bridging the gap between secondary school science and the professional world of global energy engineers.

The core of the program was hands-on and interactive with exploration simulation of five process modules: Oil Seeps and Core Samplings, Perforated Well Casing, Enhanced Oil Recovery, Petroleum Production Methods, and the Peak Oil Game. The significant shift in students' perception of excellence was backed up with data. The confidence in O&G fundamentals increased 41% from 2.50 to 3.53 over 5 rating scale.

By injecting curiosity and the skills to drive Malaysia’s energy transition, this initiative has established a robust model for industry-linked learning. UTP and ConocoPhillips are ensuring Sabah’s youth are the future architects of the energy industry beyond the classroom.
