Robotics Outreach & Advancement for Sabah Schools: “Training tomorrow’s engineers for FLL and beyond.
University Teknologi Petronas (UTP) has taken a step forward to open access for high-tech education to students across the land of Below the Wind by introducing Robotics Outreach & Advancement for Sabah Schools (ROAR) with a powerful tagline, “Training tomorrow’s engineers for FLL and beyond."
The major leap in STEM accessibility at PPD Papar, PPD Tuaran, PPD Kota Kinabalu, and PPD Penampang was driven by 3 UTP lecturers, 3 postgraduates, and 10 undergraduates, also with the help of the Sabah State Library and the Tanjung Aru Library to bring robotic labs into public places and make dreams come true for the children in Sabah.
The initiative was massively supported by ConocoPhillips with an investment of as much as RM192,904.00 (USD 47,000.00) to deliver a foundational training ground for students to compete in the global robotics phenomenon using accessible materials like a cupboard with the help of real-world and industrial problem-solving skills to engineer a functioning robotic arm.
By bridging the gap between the industry, academic institutions, and the community, the sustainable ecosystem for future engineers will begin with 100 ROAR’s students picking up their gears as creators of technology and building Malaysia’s technological panorama.
