3D Modelling Pipeline

A step-by-step journey into 3D asset creation.

How It Works

Step 1

Step 1 Capture

Photos or 3D scan of the machine or part.

Step 2 Image Reference & Base Construction

Import reference images on the corresponding axes. Begin building the object with basic shapes and general positioning.

Step 2
Step 3

Step 3 Detail Modelling

Add finer geometry and define specific elements to make the model match the real-life object more closely.

Step 4 Final Shape & Modifiers

Apply bevels, adjust shapes, and use modifiers like Boolean to finalize the complex geometry.

Step 4
Step 5

Step 5 Procedural Materials

Use Blender nodes to assign procedural materials to the object for realistic rendering.

Step 6 Labels

Create stickers or labels in Illustrator and apply them to the object as textures.

Step 6
Step 7

Step 7 Export

Export the final model in .obj format and triangulate the mesh to ensure compatibility with other platforms or rendering engines.

Best Practices

Tips to ensure a smooth and efficient 3D modelling workflow

Save Incrementally

Keep multiple versions of your Blender file to track progress and recover if needed.

Use Real-World Scale

Model using actual dimensions to ensure compatibility with other systems or rendering engines.

Check UV Maps

Review and unwrap UVs properly to ensure clean texturing and label placement.
