What is PER5ONA ?

PER5ONA is a 5G Innovation Lab jointly established by PETRONAS and Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP).
The lab serves as a test-bed environment to validate 5G-enabled sensors and devices, with a strong focus on Oil and Gas industry applications. It supports capability development through upskilling, training, and collaborative projects, while leveraging UTP’s Instrumentation & Control (I&C) lab infrastructure.
Our mission is to shape the adoption of 5G for industrial excellence — combining research, development, and real-world testing.

What is 5G ?

A technology to deliver high data speeds, ultra-low latency, improved availability and enhanced user experiences, enabled by unique features like eMBB and URLLC.

Why 5G ?

5G is a major breakthrough for PETRONAS’ Autonomous Operations and Digital Twin demand. It enables immersive remote mentoring, enhanced wireless user experiences, and cost optimization (OPEX & CAPEX).

It also enhances HSSE by introducing robotics in hazardous areas and increases asset security for Remote Operation & Control (ROC).

PER5ONA Objective

To establish a Private 5G Infrastructure at UTP for developing and testing 5G-enabled solutions. The lab serves as:

  • A live testbed for product POC and validation
  • A training center for 5G technology and workforce upskilling
  • An R&D platform for students and faculty​​​
