Chairman

Farehana Hanapiah is the former Senior Vice President, Group Human Resource Management, PETRONAS. She recently retired from PETRONAS after nearly 33 years.

Farehana has held multiple managerial and leadership roles in internal audit, corporate strategy, planning and risk, commercial and joint venture management, and human resource management.

Farehana’s key contributions include leading and pioneering the streamlining of enterprise risk management, strategic portfolio management, economic evaluation methods for business and projects, and other management decision making tools and frameworks for groupwide application. Throughout her period with human resource, she led the revamp of learning and development approach with the introduction of digital learning and leadership in-role development programs. 

Farehana was a board member of PETRONAS Chemicals Group Bhd., PETRONAS Technical Training Sdn Bhd, PETRONAS Management Training Sdn. Bhd., PETRONAS Lubricants International Sdn Bhd, PETRONAS Digital Sdn. Bhd., Chairman of the Dana Asy-Syakirin Board of Trustees. 

She graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration majoring in Accountancy from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.


 

Director

Datuk Ir Bacho Bin Pilong, is currently the Senior Vice President of Malaysian Petroleum Management​. He started his career with PETRONAS in April 1992 as a Process Engineer at Sabah Operations and was among the group of pioneers to operate the Samarang field. 

Over the years, Datuk Bacho has diligently served the Group through numerous international assignments and has held various senior leadership positions. He was also appointed President of two (2) joint operating companies in the Republic of Sudan and South Sudan. 

Among Datuk Bacho’s notable achievements include leading the Cost Reduction Alliance (CORAL) 2.0; leading the divestments in Algeria, Cameroon, Vietnam and Mauritania; securing a production sharing contract extension for the Greater Pioneer Operating Company (GPOC) in the Republic of South Sudan and restored production after five (5) years of shutdown during a challenging crisis period; leading the entry into new countries such as Oman, Brazil and Australia. Additionally, he headed the migration of White Nile Petroleum Operating Company (WNPOC) from Khartoum to Juba where PETRONAS became the 1st foreign oil company to set up a base in the Republic of South Sudan. During his short stint in Corporate Strategic Planning, he contributed to the creation of Vestigo Petroleum Sdn. Bhd.​, a company that specializes in marginal and mature asset development and production.

Datuk Bacho was appointed by the Ministry of Education to be part of the Academia-Industry Talent Exchange Programme AI-xCHANGE: CEO @ Faculty Programme 1.0 “Learn From The Pros” for Universiti Malaysia Sarawak starting January 2019. He was accorded with Adjunct Professorship by Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

Datuk Bacho obtained his Degree in Chemical Engineering, from the University of Texas, Austin, USA in 1987.

Ir. Mohd Yusri Mohd Yusof, is currently the Senior Vice President of Project Delivery and Technology of PETRONAS​.

Prior to this appointment, he was the Senior Vice President and MD/CEO of PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad. His career in PETRONAS has spanned 34 years, and since joining the company in 1989, he has held several key positions including Vice President, Refining and Trading, CEO of the Optimal Group of Companies and Chief Executive Officer of Ethylene Malaysia Sdn Bhd.


Ir. Yusri also sits on the Board of several companies including PCG, Pengerang Refining Company Sdn Bhd and Pengerang Petrochemical Company Sdn Bhd. He is also the Chairman and Board member of Perstorp Holding AB, Perstorp Financial Services AB and BASF-PETRONAS Chemicals Sdn Bhd

He obtained his Degree in Chemical Engineering, from the Oklahoma State University, USA. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Malaysia and a Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council, UK. A Fellow with the Institution of Chemical Engineers UK, Encik Yusri also completed the Advanced Management Program at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in October 2014.

Marina Md Taib, is currently the Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy of PETRONAS​.

Prior to this appointment, she was the Vice President of Treasury, PETRONAS. She started her career with PETRONAS in 1999 after competing a three-year stint with a chartered accountancy firm in London. She has taken on various senior leadership roles within Group Finance and Group Strategic Planning and was appointed as Head, Strategic Planning in the Petroleum Management Unit in 2008. In 2015, she was the first woman to hold the position of Country Manager in Brunei. Following this stint abroad, she served as Head, Corporate Projects, Project Delivery and Technology. Prior to her appointment as Vice President Treasure, she served as Head of Corporate Strategic Planning from 2017 to 2021.

Marina holds a diverse portfolio of board positions, and is also on the Board of Trustees for the Petroleum Research Fund and Abandonment Cess Fund. Additionally, Marina plays a crucial role as the Secretariat for the National Trust Fund of Malyasia.

Marina is passionate in the development of inclusive leadership, cultivating collaboration and seamless integration across the organization. She currently also serves as the Champion of PETRONAS Leading Women’s Network and is a committee member of the PETRONAS Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

Marina holds a bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from the University of Exeter, UK and a Masters in Petroleum Business Management from the University of Adelaide, Australia. She is a Fellow of the Instititue of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. Marina attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2018 and complete Yale School of Management’s Sustainable Finance and Investment Programme in 2023.

Ruslan is the Vice President of Human Resource Management PETRONAS since 1 April 2024.

He has over 26 years of experience, and was the Senior General Manager (Human Capital Development) and CEO of PETRONAS Leadership Centre prior to assuming his current post. He has assumed diverse leadership positions within PETRONAS under various portfolios including risk management downstream, corporate strategy and communications.

Ruslan has accumulated extensive experience in driving organizational transformation, and leading the enterprise-wise restricting efforts. He also led the HR transformation efforts and was instrumental in launching various digital platforms, and the introduction of principle-based governance and simplified processes to further facilitate empowerment of the business.

He sits on the Board of Malaysian Maritime Academy, PETRONAS Management Training Sdn Bhd and chairs the board of PING23 Sdn Bhd.

Ruslan holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computing from Imperial College London, a Master of Economics from universiti Malaya and an Executive Master in Future Energy from ESCP Business School, France as a recipient of its Sustainability Pioneer Scholarship. He attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2023.

Alina is currently the Senior General Manager of Finance Group, Corporate & Srategy PETRONAS, in which she is responsible for PETRONAS Group’s financial reporting, performance review, planning and budgeting as well as safeguarding and maximizing the values of PETRONAS land and property investments.

Alina Zaira’s career with PETRONAS commenced in 2001 as Finance Executive at PETRONAS Chemicals Marketing Sdn Bhd. She then progressed to Upstream Business where she held various positions, including pioneering Iraq Operation’s finance set up.

Upon returning to Malaysia, she assumed the Senior Manager role and let PETRONAS Carigali’s Oil and Gas Accounting Department, before taking on a business corporate role at Upstream Corporate Finance. She also let PETRONAS International Corporation Group’s capital restructuring. Subsequently, she was appointed as Head of Commercial Finance where she played a pivotal role in several upstream block acquisitions.

After 11 years in Upstream Business, she moved to Gas and New Energy Business as Head of Commercial Finance where she was instrumental in driving various strategic business initiatives. She was subsequently promoted to the role of Chief Financial Officer of LNG Assets and later appointed as Executive Assistant to the Executive Vice President and Group Chief Financial Officer.

Alina graduated with a Bachelor in Accountancy (Honours) from Universiti Teknologi MARA and subsequently gained audit experience in PwC Malaysia before joining PETRONAS.


  

Independent Director

Senapathy "Kris" Gopalakrishnan is an Indian businessman and the Chairman of Axilor Ventures, an accelerator that helps business start-ups. Kris served as the vice chairman of Infosys from 2011 to 2014 and the chief executive officer and managing director of Infosys from 2007 to 2011. Kris is one of the co-founders of Infosys.

He was elected president of India's apex industry chamber Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for 2013–14 and served as one of the co-chairs of the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2014. In January 2011, the Government of India awarded Gopalakrishnan the Padma Bhushan, the country's third-highest civilian honour.

Gopalakrishnan is also the chairman of Itihaasa Research and Digital, and co-author of Against All Odds – The IT Story of India. Gopalakrishnan invests in promoting research on Brain sciences, ageing ageing-related disorders as well as investing in start-ups and start-up ecosystems. His family philanthropy is Pratiksha Trust and his investment arm is Pratithi.

He obtained an M.Sc. in Physics in 1977 and M.Tech. in Computer Science in 1979, both from Indian Institute of Technology Madras. He started his career as a software engineer with Patni Computer Systems, Mumbai, in 1979.


 

Independent Director

Dr. Jörg Dräger, born in 1968, received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from Cornell University, New York, before returning to Germany in 1996 to work for the German management consulting firm Roland Berger. In 1998, he became CEO of the Northern Institute of Technology, an internationally oriented, private institution of higher education.

In 2001, at the age of 33, he took office as Hamburg’s Minister of Science and Research, and later also as its Minister of Health and Consumer Protection. In addition, he was a member of the Standing Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs and a deputy member of the German Bundesrat.

In 2008 Dräger joined Europe’s largest private think tank, the Bertelsmann Stiftung, as a member of its Executive Board. He was responsible for the foundation’s education, integration and digital programs, served as CEO of the Centre for Higher Education Development and mentored young entrepreneurs in the Bertelsmann Stiftung’s Founders Foundation.

In 2022 Dräger became Executive Director of the Board of Trustees of the Swiss Kühne Stiftung, supervising the foundation’s work in science, medicine, climate action and cultural affairs. Among other roles, he is chairman of the Kühne Logistics University, the Hochgebirgsklinik Davos, the HELP Logistics AG.
