Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) hosted a breaking of fast for about 150 poor people including orphans at An-Nur Mosque, UTP.
UTP Vice-Chancellor Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hashim said 93 orphans from Rumah Anak Yatim Soleha, Tanjung Tualang; Rumah Anak Yatim Bait Al-Amin, Parit; Rumah Amal Haruman Kasih, Ayer Tawar and Rumah Anak Yatim Al-Munirah, Bota were selected to the break their fast at the university.
He said the community breaking of fast programme was held in conjunction with UTP's 20th anniversary.
"The programme is an annual corporate social responsibility function of the university during Ramadan. "It was organised as a UTP tradition to strengthen relations with the local community around Seri Iskandar as well as to help lighten the burden of the poor," he said here today.
At the event, Ace Identity Sdn Bhd and Celcom Berhad also contributed RM60,000 to UTP Zakat Trust Fund.
The programme also consisted of an al-Quran recital (tadarus) and tazkirah as well as terawih prayers after the breaking of fast.
Earlier, UTP staff and students took part in a gotong-royong to prepare bubur lambuk (spiced porridge) in the morning and about 1,500 packets of the delicacy were distributed to the local community.
