Feed The Homeless is a community service programme that was organised by ConvoFest 2017 in collaboration with Dapur Jalanan Ipoh, a non-government organisation formed by volunteers of all ages, coming from all walks of life. Together they provide food to the homeless and underprivileged citizens.
The event was held on 26th May 2017 and continued on during Ramadhan (2nd June and 9th June 2017) in Ipoh.
The committee members were divided into 3 groups and each group distributed food and mineral water bottles to nearly 50 people at three different locations in Ipoh simultaneously; outside UTC Pusat Transformasi Bandar Perak, Dewan Selera Dato' Sagor and Medan Selera Taman Kanak-Kanak.
The locations were selected as they were known to be the places where Ipoh's homeless people often gathered.
The distribution started from 11.00pm until 2.00am. The team provided them with Sahur food during this time since most of these homeless preferred to take the food within these time.
As for the food itself, Dapur Jalanan members prepared chicken rice, nasi lemak, bee hon soup and packet drinks, while ConvoFest 2017 committee members donated fruits, bread and mineral water bottles.
According to the volunteers of Dapur Jalanan Ipoh, the main objective of this programme is not to just provide food and drinks but there is an implicit message to be shared with the public on the existence of homeless and urban poor in Malaysia, particularly in Ipoh and to change the negative perception of public on them and perhaps a chance to bridge the gap between the needy and public.
