​UTP Wins Overall Champion for 2016 Networking Games

_DSC6074_1.jpgUniversiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) was crowned the overall champion in the 2016 Networking Games Private Institutions Sports Council (MASISWA) when it won 5 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze medals.

 

Universiti Tenaga Nasional and Institut Teknologi Petroleum PETRONAS (INSTEP) was second and third respectively.

 

The gold medals came from volleyball, bowling trio, men’s double badminton, mixed double badminton and veteran badminton.  Sepak takraw, futsal, individual women’s bowling, men’s double badminton and mixed double badminton contributed silver while the lone bronze came from men’s double ping pong.

This year’s Networking Games was hosted by UTP.  It saw the participation of nearly 2,000 participants from 36 private institutions across the country, the highest number since the games was first held in 2012.  In the three-day competition, participants took part in badminton, netball, volleyball, sepak takraw, tenpin bowling, ping pong and futsal. 

 

The tournament, which is annually-held, aims to help strengthen relationship and foster the spirit of understanding and solidarity among private institutions staff.  It also encourages staff to be active in sports and live healthy.

 

MASISWA President cum Universiti Tenaga Nasional Vice Chancellor, Prof Ir Dr Kamal Nasharuddin Mustapha graced the closing ceremony and also handed out the prizes to the winners on 17 January.

 

Also present were UTP Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni cum MASISWA Deputy President, Mohamed Noor Rosli Baharom.
