IChemE Safety Centre strengthens collaboration in Malaysia through UTP
(16 May 2016)
The IChemE Safety Centre (ISC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) through its centre, Centre of Advanced Process Safety (CAPS). It was signed at IChemE's Hazards 2016 conference in Singapore.
The MoU establishes a framework for collaboration and technical coordination between CAPS and ISC in the important areas of process safety education, continuing professional development and strategic leadership.
UTP Vice Chancellor, Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hashim said that the signing of the MoU is an important platform that will help industries in Malaysia and perhaps the Asia Pacific region to make good use of the latest process safety tools, training, and services.
"The MoU also provides a great opportunity for both organisations to build strategic links and partnerships with industry, government and other international bodies in Malaysia," he said.
ISC Director, Trish Kerin, welcomed the agreement which will accelerate the sharing of process safety knowledge in Malaysia. Kerin said: "We congratulate the Institute for creating a centre which focuses on process safety, and look forward to working together to build knowledge and improve skills."
"The focus on process safety continues to grow around the world. This agreement will bring IChemE's expertise and knowledge to a new audience in Malaysia. It's also a first step towards wider take up of IChemE's Professional Process Safety engineer registration and we look forward to welcoming ITPSB as a provider of academic content in the future," she said.
