NanoMalaysia Berhad (NMB) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), at a special ceremony held recently.  NMB was represented  by its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Rezal Khairi Ahmad while UTP was represented by its Vice Chancellor, Datuk Ir. (Dr.) Abdul Rahim Hj Hashim. The ceremony was witnessed by the Deputy Secretary General (Science) of Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Yang Berusaha Dr. Zulkifli Mohamed Hashim. 

In conjunction with MOSTI Commercialisation Year 2014, this ceremony marked an important occasion for both parties and MOSTI, as the technology transfer and commercialisation of nanotechnology will play an important role in the development and roll out of thermal management for LED industry in Malaysia, which is also one of the goals to be achieved for MOSTI. 

“These collaboration efforts are to exploit UTP’s background technology and technology know-how by forming general framework for new business development with potential business partners of new invention and/or innovation of nanotechnology product through various commercialisation processes, including creating awareness and promotion to the industry. The first point of this collaboration is on the copper-carbon nanotubes nanocomposite thermal management product which features a significant improvement in heat dissipation. This achievement will be very relevant in many sectors such as electronics, automotive, IT, etc.” Dr. Rezal said. 

In his speech, Datuk Ir. (Dr.) Abdul Rahim said that “The signing of this MoU is another important milestone for UTP’s journey towards becoming an internationally recognised higher learning institution. Indeed, we are honoured to have NanoMalaysia Berhad to collaborate with us in joint cooperation in the areas of technical education, training, research and innovation. Certainly, this significant alliance will augur well towards the holistic development of the university and the NanoMalaysia and further help us to remain competitive and relevant to the industry and nation at large.

Also present at the ceremony were Y.Bhg. Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Ir. Dr. Mohamad Zawawi Ismail, Chairman of NanoMalaysia Berhad, delegates from NanoMalaysia Berhad as well as from UTP.
