​UTP Triumphs with 9 Gold, 6 Silver, 3 Bronze Medals and 4 Special Awards at International Invention Shows (23 October - 3 November 2013)

Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) continues to excel in the international level when they won 9 gold, 6 silver, 3 bronze medals and 4 Special Awards at two international invention exhibitions.

At the British Invention Show (BIS), United Kingdom, UTP’s participation of innovation won all awards, with 8 gold, 2 silver medals and​ 2 Special Awards.

The gold medals were won by Associate Professor (AP) Dr Faiz Ahmad, Mohd Azman Zakariya, AP Ahmad Mustafa Hashim, AP Dr Dayang Rohaya Awang Rambli and AP Dr Nasir Shafiq. 

Mohd Azman also won a special double gold award through his invention, Cylindrical DRA Antenna Array for WLAN, whilst AP Ahmad Mustafa Hashim bagged the special Platinum Award for his Interlocking Concrete Unit V (ICU-V) invention.

BIS is a platform for innovators to develop new business opportunities by bringing together innovation and enterprise, investors and inventors, designers and manufacturers alongside associated services.   For 2013, it received participations from 15 countries.

UTP’s participation in the International Trade Fair, Ideas, Inventions and New Products Exhibition (iENA 2013) in Nuremberg, Germany also resulted in tremendous success when it won 1 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals.

The lone gold medal was won by Professor Dr Norani Muti Mohamed’s innovation, Ammonia (NH3) Ionization-CNTs Detector (ICD).

The two silver medals were earned by Professor Abdul Rashid Abdul Aziz’s innovations, Multi Frequency Vibration Energy Generator (M-FREQ VIBER) and Free Piston Linear Generator (FPLG) Using Waste Heat.  Both innovations also received the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA) - Laurel Wreath Award for Green Invention.

This year’s iENA attracted participation from over 700 individual inventions from 32 countries.  This impressively reflected the creativity and wealth of ideas of the inventors.  Experts in the area of inventions believe that many of the new products and inventions presented in this exhibition have high commercial potential in the market.

These achievements have evinced UTP’s commitment in research, development and innovation in line with its aspiration to be a reputable research university.
