UTP hosted the Eduspec Junior Robothon National Finals on 17 November 2013. The theme of the 8th season robotics game is “Better City Better Life”. 600 students from 40 different schools from all over Malaysia participated in this event.

This competition is one of the largest and fastest growing educational and competitive robotics programme in the Malaysia. Participants performed with outstanding efforts as they compete aggressively against opposing representing teams to be crowned champion. Each team were given the same amount of time to complete a certain task. The demands of students to collaborate as they challenged against other schools and test their critical thinking skills is essential in this competition. These are the elements required in the 21st century learning.

“We realise the importance of IT literacy for 21st Century Learners, because IT literacy facilitates learning. Thus, it is important to introduce a programme that has industrial relevance, a well-planned syllabus with a good blend of content, pedagogical and technical knowledge.” Said Lim En Hong, group CEO of Eduspec Holdings Bhd.
It is a common objective to develop different methodologies to attract and maintain student interest during class while keeping in mind the intellectual dimension of the experience. The learning-by-making model appears as an acceptable method of reaching this objective. It is a smart and amazing learning methodology. Robotic learning has shown effective results as it has drawn many students interest and kept them engaged in effective learning. This competition serves as a great platform for students to exchange their skills and display their sportsmanship.
