Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) today organised a special event, “Reflection: An Evening with UTP Loyal Partners”, to celebrate UTP-Industry partnership as well as to express the university’s gratitude and appreciation to its loyal partners for their contributions and support towards the growth of UTP.
To mark this occasion, special awards were presented to PETRONAS, Shell, Schlumberger WTA (M) Sdn Bhd, Mitsubishi Corporation, Technip Geoproduction (M) Sdn Bhd, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) and Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam (JPA).
Since UTP’s establishment in 1997, many industry sectors have played significant roles contributing to the successes that the University has achieved so far. They have collaborated with UTP in many ways with greater engagement and working together in the true spirit of partnership.
With close partnership and collaboration with various industry players, UTP was able to attract reputable industry players to establish Professorial Chairs to support the academic and research agenda. The Professorial Chairs are Shell Chair in Petroleum Geoscience, Schlumberger Chair in Petroleum Engineering, Mitsubishi Chair in Green Technology and Technip Geoproduction Chair in Deepwater and Subsea Technology.
The effective partnership have also assisted UTP in student sponsorships with PETRONAS, MARA and JPA, R&D collaborations, software donations, establishment of new research centres, placement for student industrial internship programme, job opportunities for its graduates as well as contribution towards Yayasan UTP.
UTP hopes that the UTP-Industry partnership will remain strong in ensuring future success of the nation in education and building.
At the same event, there was also a launching of UTP gamelan album, entitled ‘Gatra Pertama’. The launching marked a historic event for the university as it is the first ever gamelan album produced in Malaysia by university students. The album consists of 11 songs, all performed by Sanggar Kirana, UTP’s very own gamelan group.
YBhg Tan Sri Sidek Hassan, Pro Chancellor of UTP; Puan Juniwati Rahmat Hussin, Chairman of Institute of Technology PETRONAS Board of Directors; YBhg Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hashim, Vice Chancellor of UTP and the university’s loyal partners attended the event. They were entertained by special performances by, among others, UTP Sanggar Kirana, UTP Performing Arts Group (UPAG) and UTP Bhangra Group (Gajjdi Awani).
