​UTP Debate Club Emerged Champion in the 2013 Asian English Olympics (18 - 21 February 2013)

 

Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) Debate Club (UTP DC) emerged as the Institutional Champion in the recently concluded 2013 Asian English Olympics (AEO13) at Bina Nusantara University in Jakarta, from 18 to 21 February 2013.

 



The Asian English Olympics is an annual event organised by Binus University, as a platform to gather high school and university students all over Asia for the love of English.


This year, AEO13 had over 500 participants representing more than 100 education institutions from the Asian region, including Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and International Islamic University Malaysia.


AEO13 had six categories of competitions, namely debate, speech, storytelling, newscasting, scrabble and short movie-making.   21  students from  UTP took part in  all six categories. The students won individual awards for  different categories, each award accumulating points for the Institutional Championship.   This was the first time UTP  won the first place since English Olympics was introduced in 2005.   Binus University, Jakarta and Saint Marian College , Manila ranked second and third respectively.
