Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) has renewed its collaboration with University of Brighton in the areas of staff development programme, student exchange programme, joint research and development as well as teaching and learning programme through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). To mark this occasion, a signing ceremony was held on 4 July 2013 at the University of Brighton Campus in United Kingdom. The MoU was signed by UTP Vice Chancellor, YBhg. Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hj Hashim and University of Brighton Vice Chancellor, Prof. Julian Crampton. Also present as witnesses were Prof. Dr. Abdul Rashid Abdul Aziz, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research and Innovation, UTP and Prof. Stuart Laing, Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Brighton.
The renewal of this collaboration signals that on-going research and academic activities between the two universities have been fruitful and have produced successful results in the targeted areas. A Joint Working Committee was also established to oversee the collaborative efforts between the two institutions and ensure their effective implementation.
This collaboration was first established vis-à-vis an MOU between both parties in 2008. Within the past five years, one UTP academic staff was attached at Brighton for a six-month sabbatical, while University of Brighton sent one staff in UTP as visiting professor. Other ongoing activities include joint supervision of postgraduate students, as well as joint research projects in areas of mutual interest.
UTP established many strategic collaborations with industries and universities to support its aspiration to be internationally recognised as a partner of choice for industries and scientific communities.
