Majlis Tilawah Al-Quran PETRONAS (MTAQ) 2013 or the 2013 PETRONAS Al-Quran Recitation Competition was held at Chancellor Hall, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Bandar Seri Iskandar, Tronoh from 15 to 16 June 2013. 57 staff representing various zones or OPUs took part in this competition namely Wilayah Persekutuan, West Coast, East Coast, Sabah/Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan, Sarawak as well as Brunei, Indonesia, Turkmenistan, South Africa, Iraq and Sudan.
Encik Amir Hamzah, Vice President of PETRONAS Downstream Marketing in his closing speech stated that event such as the Majlis Tilawah Al-Quran is significant to enhance the realisation of PETRONAS’ shared values, universality and relationship among PETRONAS family members.
Tn. Hj. Mohamed Noor Rosli Baharom, UTP Deputy Vice Chancelor of Student Affairs and Alumni in his welcoming address said that to acquire the right “fikrah” or mindset, students must not only be equipped with the knowledge of science and technology but with other aspects of knowledge such as spiritual and character building. He was representing YBhg. Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hj. Hashim, UTP Vice Chancellor.
The prizes were given away by En. Amir Hamzah. Each winner received cash prizes of RM1700.00 (Adult category) and RM1200.00 (Children category). The winners for the Tilawah Bertaranum (Al-Quran Recitation with Melody) and Hafaz (Al-Quran Memorisation) also walked away with umrah package sponsored by PETRONAS.

At the closing ceremony, a well-known speaker Ustaz Pahrol Mohd Juoi was invited to talk on this year’s theme, ‘Mencari Fikrah Benar’. There were also gamelan performances by UTP Gamelan Group and marhaban performances by UTP An-Nur team.
Some 500 guests were present throughout the two-day event which included PETRONAS staff, UTP staff and students and the local communities.
After the event ended, a CSR programme was held at Kampung Suak Padi, Bota, Perak where MTAQ committee members cleaned up and restored the village’s mosque and hall, together with the villagers. The programme is part of PETRONAS’ continous effort and commitment in reaching out to and connect with the surrounding communities.
