UTP Students Awarded Top Prizes at Super Dancers 2012

UTP students have once again done the University proud by winning the Super Dancers 2012 Competition organised by CapitalMalls Asia Limited. Tahyr Orazov from Turkmenistan won the 2nd runner up for the solo showcase category, while UTP breakdancing team, Interbeatz claimed the 1st runner up for the qualifier competition held at the East Coast Mall, Kuantan, Pahang on 4 and 5 August 2012.
Capita Malls Asia Limited, one of the largest listed shopping mall developers, owners and managers in Asia, organized the Super Dancers 2012, a cross-country and cross-mall event, from mid-July to August 2012 at seven CapitaMalls in China, Malaysia and India.
Super Dancers 2012 Competition comprised two categories: the Solo Dance and Group Dance. The Solo Dance category gathered participants from seven malls to pit their skills against one another, while participants from four Malaysia malls will compete in the Group Dance Category. All the champions from each mall will then meet at Gurney Plaza, Penang, Malaysia on 25 August 2012 to compete for the Capita Malls Asia Super Dancers 2012 “Champion of Champions” title.
“This is the first time the East Coast Mall organised the ‘Super Dancers 2012’. Leveraging on CapitaMalls Asia’s scale in the region, hopefully this event will provide a good platform for all the dancers from different countries or regions to showcase their talent, exchange dance techniques, and provide them a golden opportunity to get exposure abroad,” said East Coast Mall Centre Manager, Mr Chai Wen Yew.
Judges for East Coast Mall ‘Super Dancers 2012’ included the founder of Street Nation Dance Studio and famous local street dance judge, Mr Bobby Tan; Artistic Director of Pertubuhan Kesenian Mahligai Budaya Kuantan, Pahang, Ms Joan Low; Artistic Director cum Choreographer of Pertubuhan Kesenian Mahligai Budaya Kuantan, Pahang, Mr Bonny Lee and East Coast Mall Centre Manager, Mr Chai Wen Yew.
