​The MOU Signing Ceremony between Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and Industry Partners on 20 May 2011 at Petroleum Resource Centre Level 4, Tower 1, PETRONAS Twin Towers, KLCC (20 May 2011)

 

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and 7 (seven) industry partners today marked another important milestone for UTP in its quest to attain academic and R&D excellence. The MoU was signed at the Petroleum Resource Centre in PETRONAS Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur on 20 May 2011.  UTP was represented by its Vice Chancellor, Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Hj Kasim and Associate Professor Dr Abdul Rashid b Abdul Aziz, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research & Innovation Office. The event was further witnessed by Puan Juniwati Rahmat Hussin and Chairman of Institute Technology PETRONAS Sdn. Bhd. (ITPSB) and Vice President of Human Resource Management, PETRONAS.

 

 

 

 

 

The signing ceremony marked the University’s collaboration with the industries in various aspects.  Details of the collaboration are as listed below:

 

 

1.       Mikuni (M) Sdn. Bhd.

 

Areas of Collaboration       :  Research ; Valve Materials with the aim of establishing a 

                                              UTP-MIKUNI Centre for Excellence in Valve Research.

UTP and MIKUNI will jointly work towards establishing an industrial based UTP-MIKUNI Centre for Excellence in Valve Research at MIKUNI’s facilities with the latest technology and equipment. Among others, the collaboration will involve in conducting a research project specifically “Valve Leak Detection Using Acoustics Emissions (AE)”, postgraduate research on valves’ design, control and material development as well as accreditation, certification and relevant activities needed for the centre’s establishment.

 

 

 

 

2.       Cybersecurity Malaysia

Areas of Collaboration :  Research ; Cyber and Information Security

UTP and Intelligent City MOR and the Center for Cybersecurity and Defense IT in particular are developing techniques and technologies that would spearhead new research agenda in cyber models of security for intelligent cities and in wireless technology. The collaboration with industries would allow the lab-scale models to be developed into a full-blown commercially viable product. Inputs from industries are imperative for a synergy to exist between UTP and the collaborators. Intelligent City MOR in collaboration with the partners would be a crucial investment for an integrated and holistic vision that make optimal  use of cutting edge ICT, so that they successfully contribute to achieving a thriving urban future. Current research advancement in the state-of-the-art include the Total Water Management System using wireless technology and Quantum Security for e-governance.

 

 

 

 

 

3.       Green Initiative Sdn. Bhd. (Astra Group Sdn. Bhd.)

Areas of Collaboration :  Research ; Battery Packs

UTP foresees the important of research and development in batteries towards realizing a green transportation system which include hybrid and electric vehicles.  This collaboration will allow UTP to work closely with a battery manufacturer in charting the future of battery while ensuring that the current utilizations of batteries in vehicles are optimized to ensure environmental friendly solutions.  UTP is working with Green Initiative Sdn Bhd of Astra Group in developing smart automotive batteries for fleet utilizations and Replacement Market (REM)

 

 

 

 

 

4.       Jaring Communications Sdn. Bhd.

Areas of Collaboration :  Research ; Cloud and high performance computing

UTP sees the importance to collaborate with Jaring Communications for implementing the Cloud Computing and High Performance Computing (CHPC) Programme. Through this colloboration it is hoped that UTP researchers will be able to move forward in their research endearvours and are well-equipped to innovate new products with the enhanced processing ability provided by CHPC.

 

 

Cloud Computing, is an important phase in the internet evolution that enabled sources of computing to be provided as a utility service to consumers at any time and place. As such, UTP researchers will benefit from the facilities and save the cost of buying licences, softwares and processes.

 

 

 

 

 

5.       Muhibbah Engineering (M) Berhad

Areas of Collaboration          :  General MoU with the following scope

  1. Provision of Sponsorship for Students
  2. Student Industrial Internship Opportunities
  3. Adjunct Lecturers Programme
  4. Research and Collaboration

The collaboration between UTP and Muhibbah Engineering (M) Bhd will benefit the university greatly as our undergraduate students will be given the opportunity to undergo their internship at Muhibbah. Muhibbah will also provide scholarship for students to study at UTP, and at the same time, Muhibbah will send their engineers and technologies to give lectures as adjunct lecturers. Additionally, UTP and Muhibbah will work together to conduct research in selected areas of common interest.

 

 

 

 

 

6.       Petrotechnical Inspection (M) Sdn. Bhd. (a subsidiary of SGS Group of Companies)

Areas of Collaboration          :  Research and Consultancy Work on Structural Integrity

Petrotechnical is looking into structural dynamics and random vibrations of structures, instrumentation on offshore structures, independent certification and checkers on offshore installation as well as certifications of major equipment and its performance.

 

 

7.       Reality One Pte. Ltd.

Areas of Collaboration :  Research ; Wireless Sensing Network, Network and Embedded Security, and Total Water Management System
