Two UTP Students Begin Quest for Academic Excellence in Missouri University of Science & Technology (9 Aug 2008)
On Saturday morning August 09, 2008, 2 UTP students flew to the United States in their quest to chart new academic excellence in Missouri University of Science & Technology (formerly known as University of Missouri-Rolla founded in 1870), a new UTP international partner university under Student Exchange programme.
Muhammad Yusuf and Kuhanesapathy, who are from Petroleum Engineering and Chemical Engineering respectively, outperformed and beat other 34 distinguished candidates during the joint-assessment exercise to secure PETRONAS sponsorship to undergo one-semester exchange programme in Fall 2008 semester. Muhammad Yusuf believes the program will assist him to view engineering from a global perspective (current & future) while enhancing his education. He is inspired to become a reservoir engineer after graduating from UTP. As for Kuhan, a regular Dean List’s award receiver and an active student in extra-curricular activities, he perceives that this unique programme has diversified the education delivery modes at UTP as well as getting cross-cultural experience.
Indeed, these promising students are foreseeing challenges when studying in Missouri’s premier technological research university within a short period of time but both are inclined to see this as a base to help UTP in internationalising its programmes and producing world class graduates.
