Iftar With PETRONAS at Masjid AN-Nur Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) 2008 (19 Sep 2008)
Organising Iftar gatherings in conjunction with Ramadan, has become a tradition practised throughout the PETRONAS Group every year. This is a way to strengthen ties with the local community and ease the burden of the needy, so that everyone would be able to enjoy a more meaningful Aidil Fitri.
On 19 September 2008 / 19 Ramadan 1429H, the Iftar with PETRONAS in Perak was held in Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and hosted by YBhg Datuk Anuar Ahmad, Vice President of Oil Business, PETRONAS
In the spirit of sharing and giving, the gathering saw the turnout of more than 2000 guests, including 43 less fortunate members of the community from nearby areas such as from Tronoh, Kampung Bali, Kg Serkai Jadi, Kg Kurnia, Kampuang Merbau dan Bandar Universiti. They were treated with delectable feast, some goodies and hari raya tokens. The special guests were obviously touched by the gesture judging by their expressions of joy and excitement.
The evening event began with a recital of Quran by a UTP engineering student and followed by a Tazkirah Ramadan. by Ustaz Saidi Adnan b Md Nor of Universiti Teknologi MARA, Perak branch. Later, YBhg Datuk Anuar Ahmad and wife, YBhg Datin Ungku Suseelawati bt Ungku Omar joined the guests to break fast together followed by the Maghrib, Isya' and Tarawikh prayers. Other PETRONAS Operation Units in Perak namely PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB), Ipoh, PETRONAS Gas Berhad (PGB), Sitiawan and MITCO (Japan) Sdn Bhd (UTP Project ) dan KLCC Projeks Sdn Bhd (UTP Project) joined hands in organising the event. Also present were representatives from Perak Government Departments, local authorities, members of UTP Management Committee, staff and students of UTP.
