Educational Trip to THAILAND - Trans Thai-Malaysia (TTM) & Prince of Songkhla University (PSU) (31 Oct 2008)

Nurturing and producing well-rounded & highly competent graduates have always been a priority in UTP. Students’ involvement in various levels of activities / events / programmes has been very much encouraged in order for them to enhance their soft skills and acquire the necessary attributes. Major activities have been carried out successfully throughout the year which included TEC, ConvoFair, MAP and Career Summit for Future Malaysian Leaders (CASFUMAL 08). The huge success of CASFUMAL 2008 which received positive feedbacks from the participating companies (AirAsia X, SHELL, SCOMI, Agilent, MOTOROLA, NadiCorp etc.) as well as MOHE was a true testimony of the dedication, commitment and capabilities of our students in their journey towards achieving well-roundedness.

Therefore as a token of appreciation from the University, the CASFUMAL 2008 committee members (involving 32 students & 3 staff members) went on an international educational trip to Thailand (31st October – 2nd November 2008) which was organised by the committee members themselves in collaboration with the Student Support Services Dept. (SSSD). The highlight of the trip was the visit to the Trans Thai-Malaysia (Thailand) Limited Gas Separation Plant (TTM) and Prince of Songkhla University (PSU).

The UTP delegation received a warm welcome by Mr. Mazlan Simbak, the Engineering Manager and his team, and was given a presentation on the profile, vision, mission, objectives, plant operations and some information on the on-going activities which are being carried out by TTM. The students were also taken for a very interactive and fun plant tour, visiting the available engineering and technical facilities in the plant. The UTP delegation felt honored and touched by the warm hospitality shown by the TTM team as almost all key personnel were present to entertain us even though it wasn’t a working day. A discussion was also held between SSSD and TTM officials on various student matters including summer job vacations, employment etc.

In the afternoon, the UTP delegation continued their educational trip with a visit to Prince of Songkhla University where the delegation was warmly received by the student leaders and staff which were headed by Dr. Prawat Wettayaprasit, Head of International Activity Unit, Division of Student Affairs. In his welcoming speech, Dr. Prawat hoped that beneficial working collaboration / network with SSSD could be established especially on student matters. Later, a sharing session was held where the CASFUMAL committee members and student leaders of PSU were able to share their experience and knowledge regarding several matters including programs and activities which could be collaborated for mutual benefits in the future. During the free time, the UTP delegation was taken to several shopping spots famous for their affordable leather goods, textile etc. Some of the students even managed to visit some historical and interesting sites as well as witness the preparation of the Lantern Festival which is a major event in Thailand.
