9th PETRONAS Tilawah Al-Quran Assembly (28 - 29 Jul 2008)
50 PETRONAS staff representing the various zones where PETRONAS operates namely PETRONAS Twin Towers, West Coast, East Coast, Sabah & Labuan and Sarawak participated in the 9th PETRONAS Tilawah Al-Quran Assembly held on 28-29 July 2008.
Hosted for the first time by Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), the event witnessed the talents rated by the judges ‘as good as national level’ in the categories of Tilawah with melody (children and adults), Tilawah Murattal (open), Quranic Memorisation (men and women), Essay Writing and Quiz.
Some 500 guests were present throughout the two-day event which was officially closed by Datuk Dr Rosti Saruwono, Vice President of Education.
During the closing ceremony, a well known speaker Dr Danial Zainal Abidin was invited to talk on the theme ‘Taqwa Inti Integriti’. There were also Nasyid and Dikir Barat performances by the students of UTP.
The Tilawah ended with a prize-giving ceremony to the winners as follows:

Apart from the cash prize amounting RM 1700 for the adults champions and RM 1200 for the children champions, the winners of the Tilawah with melody and the Quranic memorisation also walked away with umrah package sponsored by KOPETRO.
Also present at the event were Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Haji Kasim, Rector of UTP, Tuan Haji Zaharan Mat Alipiah, GM of Group HRM, UTP Management Committee, Senate Members, staff and students of UTP.
