The Department of Geoscience (DG) at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) was established in 2006, with the introduction of MSc in Petroleum Geosciences programme (coursework). The success of the programme lead to the commencement of geoscience postgraduate programme by research mode followed by the first cohort of Bachelor of Technology in Petroleum Geoscience undergraduate students.
Since then, DG has grown in reputation and size, driven by dedicated faculty members from more than 7 countries around the world who bring a wealth of industry and academic experience as well as international and professional networks. This commitment has enabled DG to produce over 700 graduates who are now the leader within geoscience-related industry worldwide. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and future-proof curriculum design, the department has evolved and now offering the following programme in nurturing technically proficient and well-rounded geoscientists:
In supporting research and innovation within the geoscience domain, DG is anchored by two specialized research centres; Centre for Subsurface Imaging (CSI) and South-East Asia Clastic & Carbonate Research Laboratory (SEACARL), which serve the evolving needs of academia and industry integration.
