Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) proudly congratulates Professor Dr. Tang Tong Boon, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, on his election as a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (FASc) 2026, one of the nation's highest honours in science, engineering and technology.
The Fellowship of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) is reserved for distinguished scientists, engineers and innovators whose contributions have significantly advanced Malaysia's scientific, technological and innovation ecosystem. Election as an ASM Fellow recognises outstanding achievements, leadership and sustained impact in research and innovation.
Professor Dr. Tang is a renowned researcher in neurotechnology, biomedical engineering and health analytics, whose pioneering work in functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) has contributed to advancements in brain health assessment, mental health research and healthcare technologies. He currently serves as Dean of UTP's Faculty of Engineering and has played a key role in strengthening the University's research and innovation landscape.
Over the course of his distinguished career, Professor Dr. Tang has received numerous national and international accolades, including the Mountbatten Medal from The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), becoming the first Malaysian recipient of the prestigious award, as well as recognition as one of Malaysia's Top Research Scientists by ASM. He was also elected a Fellow of the IET in 2023.
His election as an ASM Fellow further affirms his unwavering commitment to research excellence, innovation and the advancement of engineering solutions that address real-world healthcare challenges.
