Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) congratulates Mr Christopher Tan Earn Soon, a final-year student from the Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) programme, on being awarded the OMAE 2026 Outreach Scholarship.
Christopher was selected to participate in the Student Outreach Programme at the 45th International Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering (OMAE 2026) held in Tokyo, Japan. Supervised by AP Ts Dr Ng Cheng Yee, his achievement reflects strong academic performance and a keen interest in offshore and ocean engineering.
Organised by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the OMAE Outreach Programme is a competitive international initiative that connects promising young engineers with global leaders from academia and industry. For the 2026 edition, only 28 participants were selected worldwide, underscoring the prestige of the scholarship.
Through the programme, Christopher gained exposure to the latest advancements in ocean, offshore and structural engineering. He also engaged with international experts, built professional networks, and participated in sessions focused on industry insights and career development.
This accomplishment reflects the academic strength and global readiness of UTP students, while reinforcing the university’s commitment to international engagement. It also contributes to strengthening UTP’s visibility in offshore and marine engineering.
UTP acknowledges the support of its leadership in enabling this achievement:
- Prof Dr Tang Tong Boon, Dean, Faculty of Engineering
- AP Ts Dr Noor Amila Wan Zawawi, Department Chair, Civil and Environmental Engineering
- Mr Saravanan Muthiah, Vice Provost (Student Affairs)
Christopher’s participation marks an important milestone in his academic and professional journey, and highlights UTP’s continued presence in the global engineering education landscape.
