UTP Sustainability | 5 Pillars of a Greener Future

Integrated Waste Management

UTP enhances campus sustainability through standardised recycling and food waste recovery systems, supported by stakeholder engagement, training, and collaboration with local authorities.

Low Carbon Campus Initiatives
Source Segregation for Effective Recycling

Recycle bins have been fully implemented across the UTP campus to strengthen waste segregation and recycling practices. Key actions included the deployment of standardized recycling bins, clear bin labeling, training sessions for UTP cleaners on proper segregation and disposal, and continuous communication with campus stakeholders to raise recycling awareness. Moving forward, site audits will be conducted to identify high‑traffic areas and further standardize the placement of recycling bins for improved accessibility and effectiveness.

Waste Management and Recycling
Food Waste Recovery

Since March 2023, UTP collaborated with Majlis Daerah Perak Tengah on a Zero Waste Project to manage food waste on campus. The trial project, conducted until August 2023, involved daily food waste collection by the local authority. Key actions included implementing standardised food waste bins at UTP cafeterias, allocating designated disposal areas, and conducting training for UTP cleaners, café operators, and Majlis Daerah personnel on proper segregation and disposal practices. Moving forward, UTP aims to continue and strengthen this collaboration.
