UTP Sustainability | 5 Pillars of a Greener Future

Net-Zero Carbon Campus

Driven by responsible governance and a vision for a net-zero future.

Solar Rooftop
UTP operates a 7.4MWp solar rooftop system, the largest single rooftop installation in Malaysia.

In 2025, over 9 million kWh of solar energy was generated, supporting the campus transition towards renewable energy adoption.
UTP Emission Profile FY2019–FY2025
UTP’s emissions declined significantly in 2020 and stabilised from 2021–2025, with a slight peak in 2024 before easing in 2025.

This reflects the recovery of campus activities while maintaining controlled and managed emission levels.
Electrical Energy Profile FY2019–FY2025
Electricity consumption reduced during 2020–2021 and gradually increased from 2022, peaking in 2024 before declining slightly in 2025.

Energy intensity trends indicate a return to normal operations while sustaining overall efficiency performance.
No Single-Use Plastic at Events
Since 2023, UTP has eliminated single-use plastics at official events through procurement changes and collaboration with vendors.

While alternatives remain costlier and limited, the initiative marks a significant shift toward sustainable consumption practices.
Plastic-Free Student Practices
Introduced in 2023, this initiative promotes plastic-free consumption among students by removing plastic straws and reducing plastic-based beverages across campus eateries.
Sustainable Water Management Initiative
UTP is strengthening its approach to water sustainability through:
  • Installing smart water meters for real-time monitoring
  • Conducting water audits to detect leakages
  • Monitoring pressure and consumption patterns to identify abnormalities
