UTP PetroBowl Team Crowned Champions of APRQ 2025, Set to Compete at Global Championship in Texas
11 July 2025, Seri Iskandar – Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) continues to shine on the global stage as its team emerged champions of the PetroBowl Asia Pacific Regional Qualifiers (APRQ) 2025, securing a coveted spot at the PetroBowl Championship to be held during the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) in Texas, USA, this October.
The UTP team comprises four outstanding students who earned their place by excelling in the UTP Intra PetroBowl 2025 competition. Representing the Bachelor of Petroleum Engineering with Honours program are Rumsfeld Marcus Lee, Jayveer Singh Kailay A/L Karamjit Singh, and Ong Xing Juan. Joining them is Christabelle Lim Xin Rou, a student from the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Petroleum Geoscience program.
Later, the team was reinforced by Edmund Law Li Tian, a Bachelor of Petroleum Engineering student who previously represented UTP at the PetroBowl APRQ 2024 hosted by Ho Chi Minh University of Technology, Vietnam.
Training for the regional qualifiers began in March 2025, with online sessions conducted twice a week during the semester break. Once the semester resumed, the frequency increased to three in-person sessions per week. In the final week leading up to the competition, the team underwent intensive physical training at Block 12 and the Residential Village common room.
The preparation was extensive and structured, involving a comprehensive question bank that covered topics such as industry general knowledge, the SLB and IADC glossaries, OnePetro technical papers, E&P terminology, and past PetroBowl APRQ questions.
The team's exceptional performance at APRQ 2025 has earned UTP a place in the PetroBowl Championship, where they will compete against top teams from around the world from 20 to 22 October 2025 in Texas, USA.
This victory is a testament to UTP's commitment to nurturing well-rounded, technically proficient, and globally competitive students, especially in the field of petroleum engineering and geosciences.
Congratulations to the team for their hard work, resilience, and remarkable achievement. UTP stands behind you as you represent Malaysia and the Asia Pacific region on the world stage.
