UTP Alumna Honoured with 2025 WIPO Global Award for Sustainable Innovation

Dr. Nadeesha Chandrasena, a PhD graduate in Civil Engineering from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (October 2013 – May 2017), on her remarkable achievement as one of the
2025 WIPO Global Awards winners, conferred by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Dr. Nadeesha’s groundbreaking innovation,
Smart Drain, is transforming urban water management by offering sustainable, scalable solutions for flood mitigation and environmental protection. Her work has not only earned international acclaim through WIPO, but also received national recognition from the Government of Sri Lanka.
Her journey from doctoral research at UTP to becoming a globally celebrated inventor reflects the true spirit of engineering excellence, impactful research, and the power of intellectual property in shaping a better, more sustainable future.
