6 August 2025 – The Integrated Engineering Department (IED) organised a Relax and Unwind Session to welcome its first 50 undergraduate students for the September 2025 intake, together with their parents. Held as an online webinar with around 100 active participants, the evening provided a platform for meaningful engagement between future students, families, and IED’s international and industry collaborators.

The session was designed to strengthen students’ connection with the aspirations of the Integrated Engineering Framework (IEF), while giving parents the opportunity to engage in open conversations with UTP leadership and collaborators.

A Night of Connection and Inspiration
The session was led by AP Ir Dr. Zahiraniza Mustaffa, Chair of the Integrated Engineering Department, who guided participants through the evening’s programme. Dato’ Ir Ts Dr. Ibrahim Mutalib, Provost and Chief Academic Officer of UTP, also addressed the participants and extended a warm welcome to students and parents.

Participants then heard directly from two distinguished collaborators who truly believes in the programme and the potential of the graduates of this programme:

A. Prof. Joanne C. Pratt, Professor of Biological Sciences at Olin College of Engineering, USA.

Prof. Pratt, a founding faculty member of Olin College, has played an instrumental role in shaping Olin’s curriculum and culture. Known for her innovative teaching in biology and experiential entrepreneurship, she continues to mentor students and collaborate globally on academic and curricular transformation.

B. Mr. Noorazidi Che Azib, Deputy Vice President at Inari Technology Sdn. Bhd.
With over 30 years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing, process engineering, and Industry 4.0, Mr. Noorazidi brought valuable industry insights. He also shared his strong commitment to nurturing industry-ready talents and building collaborations between academia, industry, and government agencies.

Both speakers were selected for their passion and excitement in supporting the IEF programme and contributed greatly to the session’s success.

Building Bridges: Academia, Industry, and Families
The session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, where parents and students had the opportunity to share their thoughts, concerns, and aspirations. This interactive dialogue reflected IED’s commitment to building strong bridges between academia, industry, and families—ensuring that students feel supported not only within classrooms, but also in their future career pathways.

Looking Ahead
The Relax and Unwind Session was more than just a welcome—it marked the beginning of a journey where students, parents, and UTP’s collaborators came together to shape the future of engineering education in Malaysia. By blending international perspectives, industry expertise, and UTP’s innovative Integrated Engineering Framework, the department set the stage for transformative learning experiences that will guide this pioneering cohort forward.
