On 5 March 2024, the Integrated Engineering Department (IED), in collaboration with the Admission, Registry and Marketing (ARM) team, held an engaging Integrated Engineering Open Day at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP). The event served as a platform to raise awareness and excitement about the Bachelor of Integrated Engineering with Honours - a multidisciplinary programme that blends mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering to produce versatile and future-ready graduates.

Held at the heart of the UTP campus, the event drew a strong crowd, including current UTP students from various programmes as well as prospective students.

The Open Day was a collaborative success, with IED and ARM working side by side to offer visitors an immersive and informative experience. Among the highlights:

An AR/VR exploration corner, showcasing the role of immersive technology in engineering education
Live demonstrations of the Sumo-bot, a robotics highlight symbolising smart automation and control
Engineering prototypes on display, representing student work across multiple modules
A Snack Corner to grab and go - sponsored by Petronas Gas Station, keeping spirits high during the fasting month

Students had the opportunity to engage with academics, ask questions, and gain first-hand insights into the tools and methods that define the Integrated Engineering learning experience. The programme’s emphasis on real-world problem solving, systems thinking, and cross-disciplinary integration resonated with many who attended.

The Open Day also received strong backing from UTP’s leadership, with the presence of the former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, reflecting institutional support for the department’s innovative direction.

“We’re proud to see interest growing - not just in the programme, but in the kind of graduate we’re shaping: one who can move across disciplines and rise to complex engineering challenges,” said a member of the IED team.

As UTP prepares to welcome its first cohort of students into the Bachelor of Integrated Engineering with Honours in September 2025, events like this play a pivotal role in connecting vision with community. It’s not just about launching a new programme - it’s about building a new mindset for the next generation of engineers.
