HSE Open Day 2025
The Chemical Engineering Department, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering and the IChemE – Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS Student Chapter, successfully organised the HSE Open Day on 31 October 2025. The event was designed to provide first-year students enrolled in the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) course with early exposure to real industrial accident cases and practical safety analysis.
Through hands-on HIRARC (Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control) exercises and poster presentations, students were able to apply theoretical concepts to realistic industrial scenarios, reinforcing the importance of safety-driven engineering practice.
Students benefited from industry-led knowledge sharing sessions that highlighted real post-accident management practices, enhancing their understanding of incident response, accountability, and safety culture within high-risk industries.

The poster exhibition showcased students’ analytical skills in identifying hazards, assessing risks, and proposing effective control measures. The activity encouraged teamwork, critical thinking, and professional communication, key competencies expected of future engineers. Congratulations are extended to all participating students and award recipients for their dedication, creativity, and strong demonstration of safety and risk management principles.
The Department extends its sincere appreciation to the 17 judges from PETRONAS for their time, expertise, and valuable feedback in evaluating the HIRARC assessments and poster presentations. Their involvement strengthened the industry relevance of the learning experience and provided students with valuable professional insights. The HSE Open Day 2025 successfully reinforced the importance of safety, risk awareness, and professional responsibility at an early stage of engineering education. The event underscored the Chemical Engineering Department’s continued commitment to producing safety-conscious, industry-ready graduates aligned with global best practices.
