LABORATORY OPEN DAY 2024: I​nspiring the Next Generation of STEM Learners

On 17 July 2024, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) successfully hosted its inaugural Laboratory Open Day 2024 at the Undercroft Seminar Room 7 and academic laboratories. The event was organised by the Laboratory Management Department (LMG), in collaboration with the Science, Technology and Engineering Laboratory Student’s Club (STELab) and officiated by Encik M Syazwan Amarjit Abdullah, Chief Support Services Officer.

With the theme of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), the programme aimed to inspire and motivate young learners in STEM fields, while also showcasing UTP’s state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. It was part of UTP’s social responsibility initiative to strengthen interest in STEM education and attract potential school students to pursue their higher studies at UTP through interactive lab sessions, tours, demonstrations and hands on activities.

The programme welcomed participation from 10 secondary schools across the Perak Tengah and South Kinta Districts. Each school was represented by nine Form 4 and Form 5 students accompanied by one teacher, bringing the total to 90 students and 10 teachers. These students were also eligible to claim PAJSK (Pentaksiran Aktiviti Jasmani, Sukan dan Kokurikulum) merit points at the district level. In addition, approximately 80 UTP staff and students joined the event, bringing the total number of participants to nearly 200.​
