UTP has successfully completed the field testing of ELEFence, an innovative elephant deterrent fencing system, at the Kuala Gandah National Elephant Sanctuary, Pahang. This milestone marks a major step forward in advancing sustainable and technology-driven solutions for human-wildlife conflict mitigation.
Conducted in close collaboration with the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), the pilot deployment demonstrated the effectiveness, reliability, and safety of ELEFence in preventing elephant intrusions while preserving ecological balance.
With the successful validation of its performance under real field conditions, ELEFence is now ready for commercial roll-out. This breakthrough positions the technology as a transformative tool that supports national conservation efforts, safeguards rural livelihoods, and promotes coexistence between humans and wildlife.
The success of the Kuala Gandah field test reflects the power of collaboration between academia, government, and industry in translating research into impactful innovations that drive sustainable development and biodiversity protection.
