Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and Diamond Gas Holdings Sdn Bhd (DGH), a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation, have signed a Project Collaboration Agreement to advance zero-carbon energy and sustainable mobility under UTP’s Green Campus Initiative.

This agreement builds on the MoU signed in February 2025, deepening collaboration in clean energy innovation. The partnership continues a long-standing relationship that began with the Mitsubishi Chair of Green Energy at UTP in 2009.

Under this collaboration, UTP and DGH will undertake three flagship initiatives:

  • Carbon Offsetting via Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs): A joint study to assess the role of RECs in supporting Malaysia’s decarbonisation goals.
  • Autonomous On-Demand E-Mobility (AOEM): A pilot project focused on developing and testing autonomous electric vehicle systems within the UTP campus, serving as a research platform for sustainable transport solutions.
  • Captive Solar Power with Battery Storage: Implementation of decentralised solar energy infrastructure to enhance energy resilience and reduce carbon footprint on campus.

According to UTP President Ir. Mohamed Firouz Asnan, “This collaboration reflects our commitment to shaping the future of sustainable mobility. Together with Diamond Gas Holdings, we are advancing research into autonomous electric vehicles, using our campus as a living lab to test, refine, and scale next-generation mobility solutions.”

“This strategic partnership strengthens UTP’s research in clean energy and smart transport, while giving DGH and Mitsubishi access to academic expertise and a pipeline of future-ready talent—driving real-world progress in Malaysia’s low-carbon transition,” he added.

Beyond the campus, the partnership supports broader national goals, including EV infrastructure development, the establishment of a Centre of Excellence at UTP, and the creation of scalable sustainability models for urban areas such as Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur.

Together, UTP, DGH, and Mitsubishi Corporation are fostering innovation, education, and collaboration to accelerate Malaysia’s journey toward a low-carbon, technology-driven future.
