UTP Students Win Third Place in LIMA '25 Rocketry Challenge

A team of Mechanical Engineering students from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) secured third place in the Rocketry Design Challenge at the LIMA International Aerospace Talent Challenge 2025, held from 21–23 May  at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre, Langkawi, Malaysia.

The competition was part of the 17th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA '25), one of the region’s most prominent aerospace and defense showcases. Hosted under the Pioneer Aerospace Talent Challenge banner, the Rocketry Design Challenge required participants to design model rockets using platforms such as OpenRocket, SolidWorks, and ANSYS. Judging focused on aerodynamic design, structural mechanics, and simulated flight performance.

Representing UTP were Muhammad Iqbal Muhammad Salahuddin, Zaid Zakaria, and Mohammad Sultan Albany Husnul Afif. The UTP team’s design stood out for its integrated approach to structural efficiency and aerodynamics, placing them among the top three out of a competitive field of university teams from across Malaysia.

The Rocketry Design Challenge served as a platform not only for technical excellence but also for fostering a new generation of aerospace talent in Malaysia.
