UTP Organises 1MKids Programme (21 June 2014)
Over 200 primary school students around Perak participated in the 1Malaysia Kids (1MKids) 3.0 Youth Social Responsibility (YSR) Project organised by Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) 33rd Science & Engineering Design Exhibition (SEDEX 33), with the support from UTP Civil Engineering Department and UTP Civil Engineering Students’ Society (UCITY) Club.
The schools that took part in the event were SJKT Ladang Glenealy, SJKC Sam Chai, SJKC Yuk Choy, SK Tronoh, SK Felcra Nasaruddin, SK Rapat Setia, SJKT Kampung Simee, SJKC Bercham, SJKT Ayer Tawar, SJKT Ladang Serapoh, SK Seri Ampang, SK Convent, SK Pinji, SK Iskandar Perdana, SK Seri Tronoh, SJKT Changkat and SJKT Ladang Buluh Akar.
Organised since 2012, the event serves as a platform to create racial unity among school students, encourage learning of Science, Mathematics and English through fun educational activities and educate the younger generation of environment conservation.
UTP’s Head of Mechanical Engineering Department, Assoc Prof Ir Dr Masri Baharom officiated the event. Also present were En. Mohd Mokhtar Shaari, PPD Perak Tengah Co-curriculum Administrator, Dr Zubair Iman Syed, SEDEX 33 Co-chairperson and Yong Hong Yaw, SEDEX 33 Project Director.
Some of the activities organised for the event were Magical Mudball, IRC Tour, UCITY Video Presentation and Science Hunt.
- Apart from 1MKids 3.0 YSR Project, SEDEX 33 will also be organising Young Inventors Challenge, a science based innovation competition for both primary and secondary school students in Perak this August. UTP SEDEX 33 is an event that emphasises on promoting education, technology and innovation among UTP students and the University’s surrounding community. This is in line with UTP’s vision to be a leader in technology education and centre for creativity and innovation.
