​UTP Quality Day 2012 (3 April 2013)

Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) recen​tly held its annual Quality Day (Q Day 2012) on 3 April 2013, to honour staff for their endless dedication, contribution and commitment in ensuring high standard of quality in all aspects of the university’s processes.  Held at UTP’s Main Hall, Q Day 2012 marked the 10th year of its organisation and was greeted with much enthusiasm from the staff.

 



The event was officiated by UTP’s Vice Chancellor, YBhg. Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hashim.  In his speech, YBhg. Datuk highlighted that this year’s theme ‘Embrace Quality, Enrich Productivity, Enhance Sustainability’ is aptly chosen to further broaden the university’s awareness, increase knowledge and strengthen efforts in incorporating the PETRONAS Five Quality Principles in our work.  “With the assimilation of these principles in each of us, we will deliver services of the highest standards for the benefit of our internal and external customers as well as our stakeholders”, said YBhg. Datuk.


YBhg. Datuk also shared with the audience the university’s notable achievements, which, among others are:

  • The first private university to be awarded 5-star in MyRA (Malaysian Research Assessment Instrument)
  • Rated a Tier 5 (Excellent) in SETARA (Rating System for Malaysian Higher Education Institutions) and D-SETARA (Discipline-Based Rating System) in engineering
  • The first private university in Malaysia to be accredited by Department of Standards Malaysia for its Universal Testing Machine (UTM) Laboratory
  • Recognition from  Talent Corporation Malaysia, an agency under the Prime Minister’s Office, for its structured Student Industrial Internship programme

19 awards were presented during UTP Q Day 2012, namely Q Day Theme Competition, Q Day Script Competition, Business Improvement Process, 5QPs Practitioner, Employee Recognition, Outstanding Researcher, Merit Award (Highest Grant Received), Product Innovation, Product Commercialisation, Effective Education Delivery, Creativity and Art Publication (Journal & Refereed Proceedings), Highest Impact Factor, Publication (Book),  Merit Award (Workbook), Merit Award (Advocacy), Outstanding MOR, Outstanding Department and Long Service Award (10 and 15 years).


Altogether, there were 52 individual winners, 7 group winners, 43 and 44 recipients of 10 and 15 Years’ Service Award respectively. The highlights of the event was the presentation to the winners of the Outstanding Department Award, won by Electrical and Electronics Engineering​ Department for the Academic Category while Information Resource Center for the Administrative Category.


The event also saw the launching ceremony of Research Management System (RMS) and UTP’s 5S (Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu and Shitsuke) concept.


In addition, there were also presentation of the International Journal of Biomass and Renewables (IJBR) by Mitsubishi Professorial Chair in Green Technology, Professor Dr Yoshimitsu Uemura to the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Professor Ir Dr Ahmad Fadzil Mohd Hani, and tokens of appreciation presentation to the QMS (Quality Management System), CoE (Center of Excellence) and RU (Research University) internal auditors.



The audience was also entertained by UTP Gamelan Group and Tronoh Theater Shop.
