International Good Programme, Siem Reap, Cambodia (8 to 13 January, 2013)

15 UTP students who are members of the Rotaract Club of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS traveled as far as Siem Reap, Cambodia using their own pocket money and some sponsorship only to put smiles on the unfortunate people.

International Goodwill Programme is the signature community programme organised annually by Rotaract Club of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (RACUTP). This year, the project was conducted in Siem Reap, Cambodia from 8th to 13th January 2013.  Its aim is to promote peace and most importantly contribute to the community outside and inside Malaysia, UTP and among Rotaract/Rotary Clubs. Throughout the programme, the students were accompanied by their advisor, Mr Zulkarnan Abdul, Manager of Strategic Branding & Communications.

As part of the activities and contributions to this programme, the students painted the school walls, taught English and played games with the students, donated bio-sand water filters, books and stationery for the underdeveloped Meanchey Primary School in Siem Reap, Cambodia. 10 units of bio-sand water filters were also donated to the villagers in Prey Chrouk, near Meanchey Primary School.

On the last day of the trip, they took the opportunity to visit Angkor Wat, one of the seven wonders of the world, to learn about its heritage.

This is RACUTP's 2nd International-cum-Community Service Trip to Siem Reap and its 7th since it went to Pune (India) in 2004, Singapore in 2006, Chiang Rai (Thailand) in 2007, Jakarta, Bandung & Yogyakarta in 2008, Kochi & Coimbatore (India) in 2009 and Siem Reap (Cambodia) in 2010. RACUTP also won twice as the best club during the UTP Co-Curriculum  and Sports Appreciation Dinner.
