Lights, Camera, Learn: IED Pushes the Boundaries of Learning Content

May 19, 2025 – In the Integrated Engineering Department (IED), learning doesn’t just happen in lecture halls, it happens on camera, in scripts, and through the lens of bold experimentation. As part of the programme’s ongoing commitment to student-centred design, the IED team recently completed a new round of video content production for its Learning Management System (LMS). These videos are more than just recorded lectures, they’re carefully crafted instructional experiences, designed to help students engage with complex concepts in an accessible and memorable way.
The filming process brought together academics, the instructional designer, and support staff in a dynamic collaboration - merging pedagogical strategy with storytelling and visual communication. With everyone involved in scripting, planning, and presenting, the process became a true example of cross-functional teamwork driven by a shared goal: to enhance the way students learn.
“Our focus has always been on how students learn best,” shared the instructional design lead. “So when feedback came in after the initial shoot in 2024, we went back to the drawing board. That’s what good design demands - iteration, reflection, and the willingness to improve.”
As UTP gears up to welcome its first cohort of Integrated Engineering undergraduates this September, these videos will play a crucial role in supporting blended learning - ensuring students receive dynamic, high-quality content wherever they are.
At IED, normal was never on the agenda - and that’s exactly how innovation thrives.
