Welcome to the Department of ​Applied Science​ at UTP!

The Department of ​Applied Science (DAS) was established on 1 April 2009, evolving from the f​ormer Foundation Studies Department (FSD). The proposal to upgrade FSD to FASD was approved by the UTP Management Committee on 2 February 2009. This transition plays a key role in supporting UTP's ambition to become a leading research university and achieve global prominence.​

DAS is part of the Faculty of Science, Management & Computing. Our department currently comprises 26 academic staff members with expertise in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.

Effective 1 May 2025, it has been renamed to the Department of ​Applied Science (DAS), accelerating UTP’s move toward becoming a research university.

We offer the following programmes:

• Undergraduate Programme
  • BSc (Hons) in Applied Chemistry
• Postgraduate Programmes
  • MSc in Science (by Research)
  • PhD in Science

In addition to our own programmes, DAS ​supports Engineering departments by offering undergraduate Mathematics courses. Our lecturers also supervise Engineering Team Projects, Final Year Projects, and Postgraduate research across various disciplines.
