Overview
In UTP, the research is categorised in nine broad areas known as Mission Oriented Research (MOR). One of the MOR is Biomedical Technology (BMT) and the centre under this MOR is Centre for Intelligent Signal and Imaging Research (CISIR). MOR BMT is one of the leading groups in the field of Biomedical Engineering and Technology in Malaysia. There are more than 20 faculty members and more than 80 postgraduate students affiliated with this MOR. MOR BMT has five main research groups, namely, Intelligent Medical Imaging (IMI), Neuro-Signal Processing (NSP), Pervasive Computing & Embedded Systems (PCES), Health Informatics & Modeling (HIM) and Adaptive & Assistive Bio-Engineering (AABE).
 
The UTP's First Centre of Excellence (CoE) "Centre of Intelligent Signal and Imaging Research (CISIR)" is affiliated with MOR- Biomedical Technology.
 
The main research under the MOR BMT covers topics from dermatology, ophthalmology, neuroscience, orthopedics, rehabilitation and disease modeling. Cutting-edge and state-of-the-art equipment is available for the researchers to pursue their interests in these fields. Some examples of the equipment include multispectral cameras, thermal cameras, 3D laser scanner, 3D optical scanner, 128-channel EEG machine (compatible with fMRI for simultaneous data acquisition), eye tracker, fNIR system, wireless EMG system, ECG machine, 20 channel wireless EEG machine and customised sodium knee coil for fMRI.
