Four UTP staff has been recently recognised as outstanding private educators at the Private Education Excellence Awards 2016.
The award recipients were:
- Dr Mohammad Tazli Azizan - National Outstanding Educator Award (University Category)
- Prof Dr Azmi Mohd Shariff - National Outstanding Researcher Award (University Category)
- Assoc Prof Dr Irraivan Elamvazuthi - National Outstanding Researcher Award (University Category)
- Assoc Prof Dr Lau Kok Keong - National Outstanding Innovator Award (University Category)
Other categories include National Outstanding Educator Award (College Category), National Outstanding Educator Award (School Category), National Outstanding Educator Award (Education/Learning Centre Category) and Long Service Award (30 years and above in Teaching Profession).
The event was organised by Private Education Cooperative of Malaysia in conjunction with Teachers’ Day celebration. It aims to honour private teachers and educators from preschool to universities, under the categories of teaching, law education, science, arts and design, engineering, research and innovation and humanities.
Private Education Cooperative of Malaysia Patron Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Yahaya Ibrahim presented the awards to all winners. This year the participation was highly competitive. Over 250 nominations from 48 private institutions around Malaysia were received, but only 20 were awarded.
UTP Vice Chancellor, Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hashim said the university is proud with the staff’s achievement.
“This achievement proves that UTP educators has what it takes to be nationally recognised. It is the university’s hope that it will motivate more educators from UTP to continue striving hard in their various fields so that we can contribute to the development and progress of education in Malaysia,” he said.
