On 12, 13 and 14 October 2012, UTP students carried out a humanitarian mission at Kg. Tanjung Aur, Kg. Pulau Pisang and Kg. Aji in Bota Kiri, Perak. Known as the UTP Kasih Project 2012, it was officially launched at Kg Tanjung Aur, Bota Kiri by YBhg. Dato’ Nasarudin Hashim, Bota State Assembly Member, who is also the Chairman of Technology Park, Malaysia.
The mission was organized by 60 undergraduate and postgraduate students who represented 10 student bodies and clubs, namely Culture and Society Department of Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar, International Student Council, Sekretariat Rakan Muda, Residential College Support Unit, Rakan Masjid UTP, Media and Technology Club, Hal Ehwal Siswi UTP, Friends of IRC, UTPHOST and UTP Taekwando Club.
For this project, the students successfully obtained sponsorship from Bank Rakyat and Lynas Malaysia amounting RM10,600.00 to purchase rice, sugar, kitchenware, books and sewing machines for the villagers. Prior to the launching of the Kasih Project, the students took the initiatives to organize a Charity Car Wash and an online donation campaign to collect additional donations for the villagers.
They also carried out various activities like cleaning up the Islamic cemeteries as well as improving the condition of the villages’ mosque. The UTP Kasih Project 2012 will also help the villagers in education. The students are currently developing UTP English Proficiency Development Project (EPDP) for primary and secondary school students for the villagers. In addition, they will collaborate with Jabatan Agama Islam Perak (JAIP) to organize more religious activities for the villages.
UTP students had done a noble mission by helping the surrounding community. Through this project, it provides a platform for UTP students to develop their softskills such as leadership, communication skills and teamwork, towards becoming well-rounded students. They have also become good role models in encouraging other students to participate in other humanitarian projects for the benefit of mankind.
