UTP Emerged As The Overall Champion At The National Chemical Engineering Symposium (NACES) 2012

UTP emerged as the overall champion in the National Chemical Engineering Symposium (NACES) 2012 held at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Bangi from 14 to 16 December 2012.
NACES is an annual national level event participated by Chemical Engineering undergraduate students. For this year, 20 public and private higher learning institutions from both local and abroad, took part in the event, which included Universiti Sebelas Maret Indonesia; Curtin University of Technology Sarawak and Nottingham University Malaysian Campus.
With the theme
“Climate Revolution, the Rise of the Earth”, this symposium was held to expose future chemical engineers to hazardous environmental issues and served as a platform for them to come up with ideas to overcome these issues.
Six competitions were held with the aim to harness students’ analytical and soft skills, challenge their creativity and innovation, and test their leadership skills. They were Technical Plant Design Competition, Technical Essay Writing Competition, Technical Case Study Competition, Malay Debate Competition, Technical Video Presentation Competition and Technical PowerPoint Presentation.
For the first time, UTP sent 22 participants to participate in all six competitions. Their efforts were finally paid off when they were announced as the Overall National Champion (Best University Award). The award was presented to UTP NACES 2012 Project Manager, Daneskumar Manogaran by UKM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Professor Ir Dr Othman A. Karim. UTP team was accompanied by its Team Advisor, En. Azry Borhan.

Lam Pei Shin – Champion (Individual Best Presenter Award)
Yong Jenn - 2nd Runner Up (Individual Best Presenter Award)

Phumphairin Liong and Ng Jia Ping - Champion
Malay Debate Competition
Muhamad Norillyas Hussin - 1st Runner Up
In conjunction with NACES 2012, a dinner was held with the theme Retro Romance Night. Participants were required to prepare a 5-7 minute performance and wore costumes in support of this event.
UTP Bhangra Team represented by Vickneshwaran Gunasegar, Shanmugam Gunasekaran and Franzeene Nadia impressed the judges with their dancing talents and won the Best Performance Award.
Another winner for UTP was Phumphairin Liong when he was announced and crowned the King of the Night.
